Coaching

With annual injury incidence as high as 80%, runners must train intelligently to stay healthy. Evidence suggests that training errors (i.e sudden changes in training routine, excessive volume or intensity, overtraining…) are responsible for up to 70% of injuries that occur. Therefore, working with a coach who can provide sound guidance to mitigate training errors is paramount for success.

Michael’s unique background allows him to construct multi-dimensional customized training programs that aim to produce longevity and help you accomplish your running goals. As a doctor of physical therapy and certified running coach, Michael’s greatest strength is his ability to develop a tailored program that keeps you healthy and minimizes the odds of injury. He regularly integrates running specific “prehab” strengthening and mobility exercises to help meet this objective.

Michael’s training philosophy is characterized by the following principles:

  • Consistent training and injury avoidance are prerequisites for success

  • Training smarter, not harder, leads to optimal results

  • Successful training programs are centered around the unique needs of each runner

  • Clear communication between athlete and coach is key

  • Training must be FUN to avoid burnout

Coaching is available for runners of all ages and abilities, and for distances ranging from 1600 meters to the marathon.

Program development begins with a comprehensive assessment of each athlete’s previous running experience, goals, and training availability. Plans are available ranging from three to 12 months depending on the goals and needs of each athlete.

Instead of providing an entire program up front, Michael will provide plans in two-week segments in order to monitor and guide progress.

Training plans are prescribed through Final Surge, and athletes have the ability to communicate daily in order to assure their needs and goals are met.

Athletes who are interested in coaching services should reach out to Michael directly to set-up a complimentary consultation.
